"If we don't see a thing...

...fate does it to us." ~ Carl Jung, from The Red Book

This may seem a strange choice of a quote for this time in which the world has been and is still suffering from something that has come out of nowhere and caused so much pain through no fault of our own, no matter who we may be, but to me, it applies in many ways, the most important being that people may agree with something like the concept of healthcare as a basic human right more than they ever had before (not to mention this right being also a way to stave off something like this much more efficiently), and they may value life itself more than they ever have, or their loved ones more than ever, (especially after some having lost some of them to COVID), or possibly they now value life more than they ever have before, just life itself, let alone all the fringe benefits of life.

I myself have almost died a few times in this life, and for some reason have lost a larger than average amount of people I love to death (including a few during this period of the pandemic, but not due COVID itself, and many years ago, both of my parents) so this is now firmly in my DNA; The value of just being alive. It is easy to take for granted. During the midst of this crisis, I was thinking about that, and on an index card, in Sharpie, I wrote 'Stay Alive. All Else is Frosting.' I even made some for friends. I always try to keep this sentiment in mind, and every morning in the shower, though I am not religious in the traditional sense but for lack of a better word, I say a prayer for all that I am grateful for, starting with Life, and having it, while I do.

The cards I wrote to keep certain basic things in mind. The anatomy figure sits upon my kitchen table (my roomie brought it home from work one day) where I spent a lot of time during the isolation period of the pandemic reading, writing, doing art, and of course, eating (which, incidentally, helped in keeping me alive!).

Despite the apt title of this blog based on my love of talking and telling stories, I am not going to go in depth toward all I have learned and all I have thought about during all of this, I will save it for later entries (including my theory that the world needed to be broken open in order to properly begin to heal) and I will now go to the standby on here that is the staple of every entry; Photos. I am including far more than I usually do, since it has been so long.

Be well, and revel in Life, while we have it,

Yours, Wayne Ray Flower II

Aye, germ is the word these days

I came across this (above) somewhere in SE Portland, it reminded me of the scene in Andrei Tarkovsky's film, The Sacrifice where the main character comes across a perfect replica of his own house in the woods near it. Below is a promo photo for the film of Tarkovsky working on setting up the house for the scene. The Sacrifice was his last film before he died of cancer, and one of my favorite films. Many of his films use houses as a metaphor.

The Green will win the Slow War

I found a malformed rock heart. Perfect.

This is hilarious. I have no idea what inspired this, but my joke was, "Nothing says love like writing your lover's name on a dirty old mattress and propping it up a on a busy street for all to see."

My friend's two nutty little dogs, Ringo and Watts. They looked like furry stones.

STOP! In the name of Love. And because there are dogs and kids around, Man!

I dropped my burrito and it landed perfectly. As well, I had just cleaned the floor. Best. Burrito drop. Ever.

This little creature can at times be a little prick, but mostly he is so sweet and he always comforts me when I am down or sick, and through the madness he has been golden.

Something doesn't feel right....

"...This is all very confusing, especially when we consider that even though we may consistently consider ourselves to be the outside observer...

...when we look at the rest of the world, the rest of the world is at the same time observing us, and that often we agree on what we see in each other. Does this then mean that my observations become real only when I observe an observer observing something as it happens? This is a horrible viewpoint. Do you seriously entertain the idea that without the observer there is no reality? Which observer? Any observer? Is a fly an observer? Is a star an observer? Was there no reality in the universe before 109 B.C. when life began? Or are you the observer? Then there is no reality to the world after you are dead? I know a number of otherwise respectable physicists who have bought life insurance...." ~ Richard Feynman, "On the Philosophical Problems in Quantizing Macroscopic Objects"(ca. 1962-1963) as quoted by Morinigo, Wagner, & Hatfield, Feynman Lectures on Gravitation (2002)

Well, I am still exhausted. On top of the state of our nation, and the confusion among those who vow to replace this 70 year old child king, life is doing its pull-the-rug-out-from-under thing it does in varying degrees, as it does for all of us, though compared to the last few years, so far not that bad. We carry on and, here we are (if you have followed this blog, you knew that phrase, my altered Vonnegut sentiment, was coming; ). As one gets older, they have been through enough to have a library of past experiences, and when we were young pups, adversity, any level of it but especially concerning a a high level of it, felt like the end of the world, but now we can look back, access the library, and tell ourselves, we went through this and freaked out but everything turned out fine.

Despite this uncertain time, I can say that music in my life is going well now, my dance card is full there, and I am always churning out visual art and writing. I am forever grateful for art and its sanity restoring capabilities, even when it uses insanity and the brink of insanity itself as the fuel to balance it all out.

Taking a different approach with photos in this entry, a photo essay that came from somewhat unsuccessfully trying to capture raindrops' impact rings in a puddle, an essay that I am calling:

My life is so full of trains now, not only for transport in the city, but I live near a train yard, the band I am in rehearses next to train tracks. Good thing I dig trains.

"...Let's go to a commercial!"

Oh if we could, put a pause on this whole sordid business that we call every day - This Bizaaro World shite, beyond anything we dreamed in plays or books or movies or tales told.

It hit me the other night that with what is going on in the US and Britain at the same time now is a tale we always heard about how the US is just the New Rome, and that it's decline is coming, or happening, depending upon what quarters you choose to live in, what you choose to believe, what to filter, all that jazz. But it isn't just us, it's us and our 'strongest/best/closest' ally, Mother Britain, our colonial empirical ancestors, the Emperors who gave us it all, who schooled us in murder (and then 'our own' country built once liberated from England, by wealthy elites who used poor people to seize the Royalist's wealth, then hoard it and screw the poor over, eventually pitting them against each other. A nation built, literally, on the backs and blood of enslaved human beings, which caused this country to rise to power at an accelerated rate, and to go on to slaughter the natives here to steal their land, make no mistake about it, white folks. We showed you, Mother.)

These two empires that have brutalized or taught brutalization to the world, manifesting as a fucking death fest where these empires use people who are just trying to get by each day, the people who do all their dirty work while the rich clutch their pearls, as their fodder. These empires are are now faced with idiots in charge of the fate of millions, the Russian puppets, not only people, but puppet policies. The Russians have gotten deeper than anyone, hats off. They run businesses in the US, in countries everywhere - entire communities count on the jobs from their factories and other employers - It goes oh so much deeper than election hacking, and even that has had some test runs into voting machines that are under reported about. They are up in us, to put it crudely. They have a firm hold on the collective genitals of the Western World. (oh-I guess that is also crude). I digress with the best! (my new way of saying I digress, as of now). And it crumbles like, well, yes, like Rome, in stereo, the absurd and somehow beautiful decline of western civilization once saved from Obama's tan suit.

Will you wake up, Republicans in Congress, before you get us all blown to fucking Kingdom Come (and we rebelled against a kingdom, see...) Democrats... FOR FUCK'S SAKE DO SOMETHING.

Which reminds me of a joke I wrote the other night as I woke at 4 am to pee...

Trump could get shot on 5th Avenue and nobody would care (a parody on his words to a similar yet opposite effect, oh confused ones)

I could go on and on but I won't (maybe later...)

In other news, I got a new phone and these days that means a new camera....
